About Us

With a history going back to 1991 Ryder was founded by Robert Price, who built a brand around hand tools from the back of his Ford Cortina. In 1994 this turned into a small chain of retail shops with all of the products being sourced in house. 2003 Ryder moved into wholesale and Robert took a back seat, handing the reins to his son Jordan Price. Jordan has been brought up on brands, product and sourcing, since the age of 18. He has attended the Canton Fair every year and most recently during his trips to China has been exhibiting, setting up offices, a packaging plant and is fulfilling orders for many High Street names around the World.

Testing

In the UK and EU there are certain standards and regulations that products must comply with if they are to be placed into the marketplace.

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a EU regulation. REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of over 100 different chemicals that are formed during the incomplete burning of coal, oil and gas, garbage, or other organic compounds.

Phthalates are chemical compounds mainly used as plasticisers: additives that make plastic flexible. There is a European ban on the use of DEHP, DBP and BBP in all toys and childcare articles. DINP, DIDP and DNOP are also forbidden in toys and childcare articles that children may put in their mouths.

Azo dyes are widely used in textiles, leathers, plastics, papers, hair mineral oils, waxes, foodstuffs and cosmetics. Some Azo dyes are considered a risk to human health as they contain one or more nitrogen-nitrogen double bonds called azo groups; under reductive conditions these azo groups can be cleaved to form primary aromatic amines, which are known carcinogens.
